The Orchestra Model Hawkins Guitar is our most popular series. It plays very loud and balanced and can be built for just about any style of guitar player. It's medium to small size makes it feel like a part of you.
The H-OMC is the cutaway version of the H-OM model. The crisp highs, clear attack and striking bass of the H-OM and the H-OMC Guitar make this a great choice for those with variety of playing styles. These models are designed to be loud and well balanced. Players and guitar builders alike are surprised by the volume and depth that these medium size guitars produce.
Lower Bout.........15"
Upper Bout..........11 1/8"
Waiste....................10 1/8"
Body Length........19 3/8"
The H-SD and the H-SDC models are both the same dreadnought style of guitar, with exception to the H-SDC being a cutaway model. Like the H-OM series, these guitars are also loud but with a slightly warmer tone, even though they are built for light strings. With a broad range of sound and a size that just simply feels natural, this is one guitar that is hard to walk by without picking it up.
Lower Bout.............16"
Upper Bout............11 1/2"
Waiste...................10 1/2"
Body Length..........20 1/4"
Scale Length.........25.4"
The Slope D Series is new to the Hawkins Guitar line up. It is a big sounding instrument with good depth and warmth. Although I am more of a "get a big sound from a smaller bodied guitar" luthier, I couldn't help but put this one in my line up. If you are looking for a smooth yet robust sounding drednought style guitar, the Hawkins Slope D series is a great choice.
The HSD model and the HSDC are the two models in this series. The difference between the two being that the HSDC is the cutaway version.
Lower Bout.........12 1/8"
Upper Bout..........8 1/2"
Waiste....................7"
Body Length........18 1/4"
Scale Length.......25.4
The H-PG (parlor guitar) has a body shape based on a 1909 Martin Parlor guitar model (the one in the pictures). Beyond shape it is all Hawkins guitar from there. If playing the blues is your passion then this louder than usual small size six string ax may be the right match for you.
Lower Bout.........15 5/8"
Upper Bout..........11 5/8"
Waiste....................9 3/4"
Body Length........19 7/8"
The H-TB is a thin body electric acoustic guitar that defies conventional thinking. It feels like an electric guitar but sounds like a full bodied acoustic guitar when plugged in. Unplugged it makes a great practice guitar as it (like all Hawkins guitars) tend to be loud. This cool 6 string eliminates the bulkiness of a traditional acoustic and is a favorite among plug and play professionals.
There is alot of flexability when it comes to electric guitars, so if you have a design in mind then give us a call and we can talk about it. Naturally, the traditional shapes (Stratocaster, Telecaster, Les Paul, SG ect.) are all available with the added Hawkins touch (the part that makes it a keeper). All Hawkins Guitars are built and shaped by hand, and by that I mean we do not use a CNC machine to carve or shape the fine hand crafted guitars that we build.
The H-UKE Tenor Ukulele is the latest in the Hawkins line of fine stringed instruments. With the infusion of "big" guitar building technique and some traditional secrets, these Ukulele's are sure to become a permanent addition to any serious players line up.

The tonewoods that you select for your guitar are the foundation for a great sounding guitar, especially when it relates to the guitar top. Whether you choose Sitka Spruce, Adirondack Spruce, European Spruce, Engleman Spruce, Mahogany or one of the many other species of wood that can be used for a guitar top, then one thing that you can count on is that the top you choose is as important as the speakers that you would choose for a premium sound system, since the top produces 80 to 90 percent of the sound. Furthermore, two tops of the same species (even cut from the same billet) will not necessarily produce the same sounding instrument, one can be great while the other one useless. Having sold guitar wood (for many years) to some of the most prolific and well known luthiers in the world, I have set aside some of the nicest sounding tops that you will find anywhere. Not only will I help you choose the right top, I will also help you choose the right Back and Side set. It is important that the Back and Sides are a good match to compliment the top. Hardness of wood as well as the tap tone all play into matching the box wood for full and balanced sounding guitar. From there it has to built right. Whether you choose Koa, Brazilian Rosewood, Honduras Mahogany, Indian Rosewood, Curly Maple, Walnut, Cherry or one of the many other species that can be used for building guitars, it is critical to the sound of the guitar that you choose your wood wisely.
Acoustic Guitar Pick Up Systems
Here at Hawkins Guitar we have tested, built and evaluated nearly every acoustic pick up system on the market. Everything from the type of film used to the placement of the pick up in the instrument will have a dramatic impact on the amplification of an acoustic guitar. Pick Up The World pick ups have more than exceeded our highest standards for sound quality, consistancy and overall performance. At Hawkins Guitar we install Pick Up The World pick ups in our own Guitars as well as other makes and models.
This Acoustic Guitar Soundboard Pickup comes pre-wired to a high quality endpin jack, and uses a proprietary film pickup mounted with adhesive tape to the bridgeplate. The tone is rich, full and produces little to no feedback. This system can be installed with the only modification being an enlarged endpin hole for the output jack. This system will work best when used with a good preamp system.

For more than 35 years I have been picking and strumming guitar strings and during the course of that time I began to notice that finding the right guitar (the one that sounded right, felt right, looked right and I couldn't stop thinking about) was all but impossible to find no matter how much money I forked over. Sure, I have owned some nice guitars but only a couple of them made me feel like I wasn't having to settle for less than what I really wanted, and they were both hand made.
I began building guitars in 1997 and shortly after began resawing and selling guitar wood to other guitar builders. Learning the secrets of wood has been critical in my development as a guitar maker and I could never have come this far without the years of friendship and help of my good friend Steve Roberson (www.colonialtonewoods.com), who has shared the depth of his knowlege as a wood expert and luthier. I also have to credit another good friend Doug Myers , his countless hours of input have helped me to become the builder that I am today. These two gentlemen are friends and mentors of the highest caliber and I am thankful and proud to have them as friends.
I am Brian Hawkins and I build the Hawkins Guitar. Hawkins Guitars are hand crafted, custom built guitars, sure to bring out the best you have to offer. Located in Virginia Beach Virginia, Hawkins guitars are now the prefered choice of Lewis McGehee.
